Tower Heist Review

This review is going to fairly short–not because the movie is bad, in fact I liked it a lot. But it doesn’t introduce anything new to the comedy genre and it’s pretty obvious what will happen in it. The cast is pretty awesome–Ben Stiller heads it up as the manager of a luxury Central Park condominium. He and all of the workers lose their pension to the owner of the condo, played by Alan Alda. Rounding out the cast is Casey Affleck, Matthew Broderick, Michael Peña and Eddie Murphy. All of them have this palpable chemistry and pay off each other. What this makes is for moments of comedy gold and absolute hilarity. Téa Leoni is also charmingly fun as the FBI agent heading up the case against Alda who may or may not be a love interest…

My favourite moment in the film is when Eddie Murphy tries to train the men to be thieves–he makes all of them steal something in the mall worth $50. How they all accomplish this is freakin funny and what they all steal is also fun. I loved Murphy and Broderick equally, and Stiller doesn’t make me hate him in this film, the way he normally does in others.

If you are looking for a film that is obvious yet fun, this is a good choice. It’s a bit of a renter, but it’s still worth the watch.

One Response to “Tower Heist Review”

  1. Made me laugh and held my interest more than it should have, given how sloppy it is. Call it an acceptable bit of B-minus work from a C student. Good review.
